Funny

Time for the first big post :D

Me again,

So to do a little background infos on me, i'm a multimedia programmer from St-Eustache (near Montreal) in Quebec, Canada. I say multimedia programmer because i program in a couple languages. Mainly, php/mysql, javascript, html/css, and flash/flex.

So my first official post with interesting content is about the poor availability of flash/flex help (good basics, and how what works) on the web. Yes of course, there is kirupa and the adobe livedocs, but that's no real "book" type help. They always assume you know stuff about flash or flex. So people with knowledge, please make better tutorials for the people who know squat about these technologies.

I recently had to learn flash/flex and actionscript 3, which was a pain in the neck by the way, but then again lynda.com saves the day...i wish... Don't get me wrong, lynda.com is great to learn the basics and a bit more advanced stuff but it doesn't cover some basic things you need to know.

Like the eternal question, what the hell replaces _root from actionscript 2. The answer is simple really.. when you know it. Movieclip() is your answer.

Let's say you are in a movieclip that's directly on the stage (flash). Simply type
MovieClip(parent).object.property_or_function.

So, this blog/mini-site's main purpose is to help people out on stuff that i know about programming in general (i will not be always talking about flash) and cheer/bitch about things that i (dis)like.

For css/html/photoshop tips i encourage you to follow my friend anabelle gagné's blog which will be underway pretty soon at anabelle-gagne.blogspot.com.

Well, that's it for now, not much tips for now but i'm trying to get stuff together for the next post that could be very cool for PHP programmers...to be continued...

Marc
